The match between Italy and Cameroon ended in a 0-0 draw in the penultimate test before the World Cup in South Africa. In Montecarlo, against the “Lions” led by Inter striker Eto’o, Lippi fielded two bianconeri in the starting line-up: captain Cannavaro, who was substituted ten minutes from the end of the match, and Giorgio Chiellini who on the 13th minute scored after being launched by Cossu but saw the goal being disallowed for off-side. It was one of the few exciting instances of a match which saw Marchisio come onto the field for Criscito in the second half. Nicola Legrottaglie, the other bianconero called-up by Lippi was not fielded.
Italy’s next match is scheduled for the 5th of June in Geneva where the azzurri will play a friendly against Switzerland.
Cannavaro, Chiellini, Marchisio and Legrottaglie will be back to work under Zaccheroni’s orders tomorrow. The Juventus coach will be able to count on the complete squad.
